Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 20, 2026

Green Rush News ("we," "us," "our") operates greenrushnews.com (the "Site") as a cannabis intelligence, directory, and news publication. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We treat cannabis-related browsing as sensitive and hold ourselves to a higher standard than general-interest publishers.

Information We Collect

Information you provide. If you subscribe to our newsletter (The Daily Briefing), we collect your email address. If you submit a dispensary correction, contact form, or business inquiry, we collect the information you send us (such as your name, email, and the message contents).

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may log: IP address, user agent, referrer, the pages you visit, and approximate location (country, region, or city derived from your IP by Cloudflare's edge network). We use this information to operate the Site, measure performance, and detect abuse.

Precise location. Some features (such as "Find dispensaries near me") request your device's GPS location through your browser. We only request this after you tap the button, and we use the coordinates once — to map you to a U.S. state directory page. We do not store your precise coordinates on our servers.

Cookies and local storage. We use a small number of first-party cookies and local-storage entries to remember preferences (such as age-gate acknowledgement and newsletter dismissal). We do not set advertising cookies for behavioral targeting on our own domain.

How We Use Your Information

  • Deliver the newsletter you requested and send transactional replies to inquiries you submit.
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Site — including caching, rate-limiting, and debugging.
  • Produce aggregate analytics (e.g., which articles performed well, which states drive traffic).
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their independent marketing.

Cannabis-Specific Considerations

Cannabis remains a Schedule I substance under U.S. federal law even where state-legal. We intentionally minimize the personal data we retain about your cannabis-related reading, and we do not build advertising profiles that tie your identity to specific strains, products, or dispensaries. We never transmit a logged-in user's browsing history to third-party ad networks.

The Site is intended for adults 21 and older (or 18+ medical, where applicable). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21, and we do not target advertising or newsletter content to minors.

Cookies & Tracking

We use the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the Site to function (session, security, age-gate). Cannot be disabled.
  • Preferences — remember dismissed banners and theme choices. Optional, stored locally in your browser.
  • Analytics — privacy-respecting, aggregated usage analytics. No cross-site profiling.

You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so may reset preferences such as the age-gate.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a small set of vendors to run the Site. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and, where applicable, a data-processing agreement:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, edge compute, DDoS protection, and IP-based geolocation.
  • Newsletter provider — stores your email address and delivers The Daily Briefing. Unsubscribing removes your address from active sends.
  • Google Maps / embedded iframes — when you view a dispensary map, Google may set cookies under its own policy.
  • Analytics provider — aggregate visit analytics only.

Data Retention

Newsletter subscribers: retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Contact-form submissions: retained for up to 24 months for audit and reply history, then deleted. Server logs: rotated on a rolling 30-day window unless needed for security investigations.

Data Security

We use TLS in transit, managed databases with access controls, and the least-privilege principle for credentials. No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach that materially affects your personal information, we will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Virginia, and other U.S. states with consumer-privacy laws, and the EU/UK under GDPR), you may have rights to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you.
  • Request a copy, correction, or deletion of that information.
  • Opt out of any "sale" or "share" of personal information (we don't do this, so opting out is effectively always on).
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in every email, or by emailing us.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@greenrushnews.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (typically 30–45 days).

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21 in the United States. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International Users

The Site is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. By using the Site, you consent to that transfer.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide additional notice (such as a banner or newsletter note).
